A commitment to community and the individuals they serve make Hillsborough Community College an excellent provider of educational services. The college, located in Florida, serves a diverse population. Programs have been created to meet the needs of students who wish to continue to higher levels of academics or enter the workforce.Upon enrollment in the College students are provided with a counselor who works closely with them to set goals and objectives. The program of study students enter is based on the goals that they have established and their special needs. Should students require tutoring or other assistance, the counselors provide the necessary resources for the students. By proactively addressing student needs the College has continually raised the student success rate.Although Hillsborough Community College has a very large student population, the administration and faculty work diligently to assure that each student is treated as an individual. Students are encouraged to participate in community and campus activities and are given opportunities to earn college credits for many off-campus programs.In order to meet the needs of a growing workforce population, the College offers Adult Education Programs that include high school completion. Students participating in an Adult Education Program are able to complete high school, take the necessary coursework to attain an Associate’s degree, and earn college transfer credits. The programs are offered at times and on days when a working student can attend.A unique feature of Hillsborough Community College is their provision of living quarters to their students. Individuals are able to live in student apartments with roommates. These dormitory style apartments allow students to exchange ideas and maintain an educational environment when they are off campus. The apartments provide tutoring programs and off-site educational services to assist the residents of the apartments in learning the study habits they will need at the university.Student apartments are equipped with computer equipment that is directly connected to the college server. This allows students to interact with faculty and staff at the college and take courses which are offered through the On line Programs available. The students are provided with tutors that live on the site and are matched with roommates that have been at the College for at least one year.In order to maintain a close feeling of community for all of the students, Hillsborough Community College provides many student activities that involve the satellite schools that are located through the Tampa area. The students from all six satellite campuses participate in these activities at the main campus and are encouraged to be active on student councils, clubs, and organizations.
